Venue: Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang, Malaysia View Map
First Software Engineering Postgraduates Workshop (SEPoW 2009) is an international forum for Masters, M.Phil. and Ph.D. postgraduates who are performing research in software engineering. SEPoW 2009 will be hosted for the first time in Malaysia in conjunction with 16th APSEC 2009. Postgraduates will converge to present and discuss their research with peers and experienced researchers in a constructively critical atmosphere. The workshop provides Mentoring Panel consisting of prominent researchers in different areas of software engineering who will actively reflect on the research work and will contribute to the discussions. Presentations and discussions will be conducted in English. The workshop welcomes software engineering postgraduates who have completed extended research proposal stage to submit, participate and grab the opportunity to gain beneficial feedbacks and mock viva of their research work from experienced researchers around the region.
The goals of the workshop include:
- To deliver fruitful and constructive but critical feedbacks and advices to the selected research postgraduates on their research thesis.
- To provide the opportunity to meet experts from different backgrounds working on topics related to software engineering.
- To interact with other research students and stimulate an exchange of ideas and suggestions among participants.
The submitted paper must give a clear description of the research work and in particular:
- give a clear problem definition of the research,
- motivation of the proposed research, i.e. state the reason of conducting the research work, and what would be the benefits from the research,
- review on background and related research (citing by papers),
- proposed work or solutions to address the problems and justification of the proposal,
- research methodology, its plan and progress,
- problems encountered (if any) and
- expected results and contributions*.
*Note that more advanced stage of research work may also include results and discussions from the evaluation of the proposed work.
The one-day workshop will be organised on 30 November 2009 that is the day before APSEC2009 at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang. Participants of the workshop will be required to pay RM150 on top of APSEC 2009 conference registration fee.
