Dato` Prof. Dr. Osman Bakar

Osman Bakar, Professor Emeritus of Philosophy and former Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Malaya, is currently Professor of Islamic Thought and Civilization at the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization in Malaysia. He is also a Senior Fellow at the Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding, Georgetown University, Washington DC. He was educated at the London University where he obtained his B.Sc and M.Sc in Mathematics. He earned his doctorate in Islamic philosophy from Temple University, Philadelphia. A Fullbright Visiting Scholar, he has published 13 books and more than 150 articles on Islamic thought and civilization, particularly Islamic philosophy and science, and on contemporary Islam, inter-religious and inter-civilizational dialogues. The founder of the Center for Civilizational Dialogue at the University of Malaya, he has also served as advisor and consultant to various international academic and professional organizations and institutions, including UNESCO and The Qatar Foundation. He is a member of The West-Islamic World Initiative for Dialogue established by the World Economic Forum based in Switzerland.


Prof. Dr. Cemil Akdogan

Cemil Akdogan graduated with a B.A. in Philosophy from Ankara University in 1967, and M.Sc. and Ph.D. in the History of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1974 and 1978 respectively. Presently, he is a Professor of History and Philosophy of Science at ISTAC.


Moneef Rafe Zoubi

An international science & technology advisor with more than 20 years experience in a variety of development projects; primarily in the domain of science and technology.

After studying and working in the UK until 1988, Moneef Zou’bi, a national of Jordan, joined the Royal Corps of Engineers of the Jordan Armed Forces for two years during which he undertook a number of office and field tasks all over Jordan; including undertaking a thorough review of all management and administrative procedures in place at the corps. He then joined the Islamic World Academy of Sciences (IAS), Amman, Jordan; embarking on a career in international scientific and technological collaboration involving more than 60 countries. Since 1998, he has been Director General of the IAS.

Over the course of the last 18 years, he has been involved in scientific missions in more than 20 countries. For some time, he was consultant for the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) on Information Technology policies and strategies, and a consultant for the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) on science and technology. He has headed over 20 different scientific missions in as many countries, and has been involved in most of the science and technology activities undertaken by relevant OIC organizations over the last decade.

Since joining the IAS in 1990, Moneef Zou'bi has devoted all his energies into turning the IAS into one of the world's most respected academies of sciences that is actively engaged in bridging scientific and technological, development; and even political divides between countries, cultures and civilizations. The IAS boasts relationships of collaboration with the InterAcademy Panel (IAP), UNESCO, ISESCO as well as the World Bank, and maintains excellent relations with over 150 academies of sciences worldwide.

Moneef Zou'bi has written extensively on science and technology and education topics, and has given lectures on such subjects in over 25 countries. He has been the editor of a number of specialized publications and journals and has published over 40 papers on science and technology issues, and edited and co-edited 10 books on topics such higher education, the environment, water resources, as well transformational technologies.

He is interested in history and passionate about the Internet.
